Who or what got you into shooting?

Over the last few years, my husband has cultivated a love for shooting within me. Upon his insistence, I shot a gun for the very first time several years ago. Over time, I have grown to enjoy shooting immensely. Now, it is my favorite past time. As we have pursued this passion as a couple, we have also instilled this passion in the hearts of our daughters who now both enjoy shooting.

Do you shoot handguns, shotguns, rifles or all of the above?

I enjoy shooting most firearms. (I have not shot any muzzleloaders though.) I typically prefer handguns and rifles but shotguns are a nice way to mix it up occasionally.

NRA member since:

2013

Why are you involved with the NRA or how do you support their efforts?

My husband has been a member for a few years. I recently became a member as I became a certified NRA instructor. I support the NRA because I believe very strongly in the 2nd amendment and I commend the NRA's efforts to uphold it.

Tell us about the first gun you owned or your favorite gun.

My first gun was a Springfield Armory XD 9mm. My favorite gun is a Yugo m48.

What's your current go-to gun?

My Sig Sauer P938 is my conceal/carry so I use it most.

What's your favorite shooting range or place to hunt?

Buffalo Range Shooting Park in Ottawa, IL is a lot of fun! My husband and I went there for our anniversary last year and spent the whole weekend.

What's your best or most memorable moment as it relates to firearms?

Some of the most unifying moments in my marriage have happened while enjoying firearms with my husband.

I own a gun because:

I enjoy them and I believe it is important for women to be able to protect themselves.

Tell us the best (or worst) gun advice you've ever been given.

Don't listen to people who act like they know everything about guns. People who really love guns want to share the joy of them and aren't interested in making others feel dumb.

What's your easiest gun to handle and shoot? Hardest?

Ruger Mark III is like shooting with butter in the barrel. Perfect shot every time. It's also great for beginners because there is no recoil and no loud noise. A 12-gauge shotgun is a blast to shoot but it kills my shoulder.

What would be your recommendation for best entry-level gun?

Definitely the Ruger Mark III.

Your ideal shopping trip: the mall or an outdoor outfitter?

An outdoor range with as close as 5 yards and up to at least 300 yards. I'd also like it to have a plunking pit.

What do you think is the best home defense — firing or fleeing?

Firing

Who or what inspires you?

People who are resilient against great odds inspire me.

What's your favorite holiday? Why?

Christmas because Jesus is the best thing that has ever happened to humanity. (The family time and presents are nice too.)

What do you do to relax and unwind — watch TV, listen to music, go to movies, catch a game, exercise, something else?

Shoot, of course. I love to watch Parks and Recreation because I love to laugh and it's hilarious. I enjoy movies and running as well.

Your greatest accomplishment?

Being a mother my daughters can respect.
